Priming the bottom skins.Timer icon3h

October 10, 2025

Primed the bottom skins today.

A rare photo of skins scuffed with Prekote (because I am usually too lazy to remove the gloves to take a photo).

And another photo of a cleaned skin!

Another view of a scuffed skin.

Initially, I wanted to prime just two of the skins, but I mixed way too much of the primer, and since its pot life is about 4 hours, I decided to clean the remaining two skins and prime them as well.

There was a bit of a disaster when I got some liquid on one of the freshly primed skins. Probably, just the sweat dripping from the gloves. So, I had to clean that area again and spray it again.

Also, over the week I printed some of the Garmin avionics on my 3D printer -- to see if I can fit them in my panel.

Mock-ups of Garmin avionics.

They look good for models not designed for 3D printing (they have too many small details that don't print very well). I found that the best way to print them is to put them face down, then split with Prusa slicer into two halves, with some holes/dowels for alignment. Two halves are then glued together with CA glue.
